Concept:
Tailored more specifically towards males, this retail development offers the services of a barber store and a brewery. The gentleman's lounge, a speakeasy style, is classy and sleek; providing an escape from the busy city and transporting users into a new realm which is peaceful and provides a moment of pause.
Brief: To design a retail store for a mixed use eat and retail development. The design is to be accessible and to re-ignite the Colbyn atmosphere, creating a vibrant redevelope
Accessibility:
One of the major factors in this design was creating an accessible retail store which would accommodate to all persons, including those with impairments; that being mobility, age, pregnancy, hard of seeing and/or hearing. We were required to do an accessibility audit on our store to evaluate the success of the design. My audit was awarded the highest mark in the class. I am especially passionate about Accessible design as I have grown up with a brother who suffers from a mobility impairment called Spina Bifida; therefore, I have learnt how a poorly designed space can impact his interaction and the way in which he is able to enjoy spaces. I believe design is about creating experiential and memorable adventures, and this experience should be experienced by all people and should not exclude persons with impairments. Therefore it should not look starkly different, nor isolate people with impairments, but all users should enjoy the space in the same manor.
