experiential pavilion
1st year
2018
Location:
Groenkloof Campus, UP, Pretoria
Brief: The brief called us to investigate and compile precedent studies on the existing Serpentine pavilions, and thereafter to design a pavilion for the Groenkloof campus which we were situated on during our first year. The pavilion was to be an experiential installation which contrasted the existing moments of pause and relaxation, only available through benches scattered across campus. We were to create moments of pause which would resonate with users and leave them feeling as though the pavilion added value to their experience.

Concept: Creating a pavilion which
co-inhabits with its surroundings and reacts to its users, wind and water; uniting the landscape and the installation as one body which celebrates the others existence.
A lighthouse providing a refuge and highlighting the encircling water which fuels life, growth and harmony.
The strung lights representing the willow tree act as a listening ear and provide a soft embrace to its users, allowing them to feel acknowledged.
