installation / exhibition

2nd year

2019

Location: 100% Design, Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand.

Brief: We were required to design an exhibition space which would be displayed at 100% Design. The exhibition is to celebrate and display Colour by Conran's paint range, selecting one of his colour palettes. I selected the palette Orchard.

Concept

Conran is a designer who focuses on colour and its interaction with its surroundings. This exhibition strives to mimic an orchard, from which Conran drew his inspiration for the paint range in order to create his colour palette, therefore the exhibition strives to transport us to his inspiration and the origin of the idea so that users can better understand the designer's narrative.

A secondary layer playing a major role in the project is the Japanese Toro Nagashi lantern festival. This event celebrates the lives of lost souls, and spirits finally returning home.

The project speaks to this as it chooses to highlight the source of inspiration for Conran's colour palette, allowing the consumers to understand a narrative which speaks to origins and the root of an idea.
